Julianne Dunne, MD
Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine
Julianne Dunne, MD, is a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist in the Department of Women’s Health at westmed and a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She takes care of women of all ages but does NOT currently practice obstetrics.
In addition to a full range of gynecologic services, Dr. Dunne offers a medically supervised weight management program focusing on the unique problems women have controlling their weight throughout their lifespan. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and a member of both the Obesity Medicine Association (formerly known as the American Society of Bariatric Physicians) and The Obesity Society. With a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Columbia University and membership in the American College of Sports Medicine, she also incorporates exercise as an important component of health and weight management.
As a gynecologist and bariatrician, she is exceptionally qualified to treat the special issues women have with weight control. These range from menstrual irregularities to infertility as well as postpartum weight struggles, not to mention the dangers of excess weight at conception. This may increase the risk of many obstetrical complications such as preterm labor, stillbirth, pre-eclampsia and cesarean delivery. Hormonal imbalances may cause weight gain throughout a woman’s life in the form of polycystic ovarian syndrome, metabolic syndrome or simply the normal changes that occur at the time of transition from the reproductive years through menopause.
After graduating from Duke University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Dr. Dunne completed a pre-medical program at Columbia University. She then went on to receive her Medical degree from Cornell University Medical College (now Weill Cornell Medicine). She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Dunne takes care of women from adolescence through menopause. She is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and lectures at local high schools on sexual health. She is also a member of the North American Menopause Society. She is on staff at White Plains Hospital Center and performs outpatient procedures at the Rye Ambulatory Surgical Center at the westmed facility on Theall Road in Rye.
